Floating Pontoon Solutions have just returned from Manchester after two gruelling days installing a massive 55m long pontoon alongside the Manchester Ship Canal. Our client, a large property developer, requested the pontoon to help with de-vegetation works along the canal and the construction of a new walkway. However, the project wasn’t as straightforward as it seems because both the pontoon and safety boat had to undergo a stringent examination to receive its Certificate of Seaworthiness which is a compulsory requirement for all vessels operating on the Manchester Ship Canal. To achieve this certificate, the pontoon had to include Combisafe panels, fire extinguishers, life rings, navigation lights, an anchor and ladders. It was a great learning experience and gives us another string to our bow for those clients wishing a install a pontoon onto a commercial waterway.
