Southall Waterside, London’s first strategic housing zone, is a new project involved in the construction of nearly 4000 homes alongside the Grand Union Canal, and part of the project is to replace the existing canal towpath which runs for 1.5 miles. Not wanting to close the towpath to pedestrians and cyclists, FPS were approached by Berkeley Group to provide a floating pontoon to act as a temporary walkway, thereby providing no disruption to the public. The initial pontoon of 150m long x 2m wide was installed over 3 days last week, and another of the same specification to be installed in the coming weeks. To comply with Canal and River Trust legislation, the pontoon also included warning lights, barge boards and safety barriers. We are looking forward to working on this project over the next 6 months.
