Floating Pontoon Solutions Commence Work On The New Wear Crossing, Sunderland
We were tasked with providing a shore access solution for the safety boat at all states of the tide, to enable works on the new wear crossing to continue 24 hours a day.
The pontoon modules and components were delivered in a timely manner exactly as scheduled and they were installed with ease.
The Rise & Fall
Floating Pontoon Solutions designed and installed a floating jetty that will rise with the tide and lay on the river bed at low tide. The head of the pontoon remains afloat at all states of the tide which enables safe shore access 24 hours a day for the safety boat and work boats.
Our temporary jetty is 30 meters long with a large head section to allow easy access night and day and the pontoons have been fitted with customised cleats, fenders and handrails.
£117.6 Million Flagship Bridge Brings Specialist Partners Together
The new road bridge will be a three span cable-stayed bridge with an A-frame pylon rising to 105m (344ft) crossing the River Wear between Castletown on the north to Pallion on the south bank. It will have two lanes of traffic in each direction, plus dedicated cycle ways and footpaths along its full length.
The £117.6 million flagship bridge project brings together specialist partners from the private and public sector from across Europe and is scheduled to open in spring 2018.
At twice the height of Nelson’s Column and bigger than Big Ben, Sunderland’s new bridge will be hard to miss.
